A Countryside Funeral In Wingfield

When someone passes away, it can feel overwhelming, and a busy crematorium chapel or formal church service is not right for everyone.

We, the owners of The Plough Wingfield also own Heritage Funerals Limited, an independent and family‑run funeral directors in Dunstable and we wanted to offer another gentle choice for saying goodbye, and from this our wish the Countryside Funeral in Wingfield, was born.

At The Plough in Wingfield, you and your family can come together for a full, dignified funeral service in a quiet Bedfordshire countryside setting, with time, privacy and support to say goodbye in your own way.

At a glance

  • A peaceful countryside venue at The Plough, Wingfield, for the funeral service and wake

  • Flexible times, including evenings, without church or crematorium chapel time limits

  • Guided and supported by Heritage Funerals at every stage

Our thatched country venue becomes yours alone for the entire day of the funeral, with exclusive use of our function room and large garden, so the occasion feels calm, unhurried and truly personal to the person you love.

How the Wingfield Funeral works

Many families find comfort in choosing to hold the main funeral service at The Plough, where family and friends can gather in warmth and familiarity.

The ceremony can take place in our private function room, or, if the weather is kind, outside in our large garden overlooking the open Bedfordshire countryside.

After the service, you can choose what feels right for you and your loved one.

You might choose an unattended cremation the next day, or some family and friends may wish to go on to a cemetery for burial or to a crematorium for the committal, then return afterwards for the wake of which tea and coffee along with a buffet will be provided for everyone who attends along with an open bar for those who fancy something a little stronger.

This means those who prefer not to travel on can remain at the venue, and you can still keep the sense of togetherness, love and respect that matters so much at this time.

Because we are not limited by short chapel time slots, you can also choose a time and day that fits gently around your lives – including an evening service – making it easier for people who find it hard to take time off work or a service at a weekend.

The setting and facilities

The venue is very traditional with a thatched roof in Wingfield, with a warm, homely feel.

It offers:

  • A private function room where a funeral service can be held in comfort and privacy

  • A large private garden with beautiful countryside views, ideal for a peaceful outdoor service when the weather allows

  • A large, car park for over 50 vehicles, so guests can arrive and leave without worry

  •

Personal, supported and guided with care

Every funeral conducted at The Plough is shaped around the life, beliefs and personality of the person who has died.

You can choose music, readings, photographs, candles, memory tables and other special touches that help tell their story.

As experienced funeral directors, you will not be left to manage this alone we will be with you helping you navigate this difficult time.

We will listen carefully, walk beside you step by step, and take care of the practical details, so that you can focus on remembering your loved one and being with those closest to you.
